I got off work tonight at 12:30 and came back to the room after checking out the strange noises coming from the connector’s 3 floor (turned out people were watching a comedy act by Robin Williams). Realizing that I have seriously neglected my internet duties, I have decided to read/respond to e-mail and read/write blogs until I’m all caught up. It is now 1:56 and this is the first blog I’ve written. I have two others π¦ But I love it, I just need to stop slacking in…..well every area of my life! Grrrrr…. I’m in a very pessimistic mood right now because I my tendency to procrastinate has bit me in the butt several times lately. That happens way too frequently…..I’m a good person, I’m a good person, I’m a good person. Oh, and I still have to put my laundry away……. sigh
Otay, first off, I still need to talk about this weekend. I took about 20 min. to write about it yesterday, but then by a stupid computer screw up, lost it……. errrrrrrrrrr!!!!! (very very angry face!) So this one’s not going to be as good, but here it is~
This weekend Abby and I went to a Renaissance fair. It was INCREADIBLE! I loved it. It was an amazing way to get away from campus. Both in distance and (well at least if felt this way) time. Amazing costumes……I can’t wait to make my own… π Amazing food….oh, it was scrumptious. Here’s a copy of the menu: http://www.midrealm.org/sternfeld/pageant/gpfeast.htm
we didn’t realize that we needed to bring our own feast gear (table settings) so we borrowed from those who had extras. We shared a beautifully made ceramic mug which was a nice touch, but made for an interesting time when there were toasts π
Then the dancing came….I had spent most of the afternoon in dance classes so I was really looking forward to the ball. I love it! I love dancing, especially that kind. It’s so interesting to see how the old medieval dances morphed into American folk dancing π I love dancing, oh, I said that already π We had a dessert revel in the middle of the ball and my favorite thing (there was so much~ chocolate truffles, several cakes, custard pie, cheese, apples, cookies) was the hot apple tart…..ummmmmm π Then more dancing. Abby and I danced till about 11:45 and were on the road by midnight.
The fair was set up by SCA (the Society for Creative Anachronism www.sca.org ). I was amazed at how well put together it was and how big the society is. I was also impressed with how much knowledge the people there had about the medieval period and it’s history and culture. The people we sat with at dinner had been in the organization for several decades, and had so much info to share, and very colorful personas. I got to sit next to a monk (he had been a monk in his mundane life for 15 years) he was cool.
I think I’ve discovered a new passion (or should we say obsession o:) As a disclaimer, this account is a very poor one because I’m tired and in a bad mood. If you want to see me get really excited and eyeglowing-happy, ask me to tell you more about it in person.
On to other things….. Last night I took over the world….or at least I beat Jesse and Aaron at Risk. Today I had supper at home with my sister Lenora, her husband Tobias, my uncle and aunt, Jim and Betsy, my mother and Jesse. It was great π and I’m excited that Lenora and Tobias are moving back to the area next July. Oh and as Betsy was leaving she told Jesse that she hoped to see more of him and he said “So do I” and that just made me incredibly happy…….ummmmmmm happy thoughts. Family is such a blessing, and such an interesting thing too, family interactions always intrigue me.
Sigh, I’m still in a bad mood……. I’m a good person, I’m a good person, I’m a good person
Hi Steph! The SCA is awesome – I have some friends who are members, and they’ve taken me to a few events. I believe there’s a chapter in the area…
